Inspired by the Genius “Verified” series, in which a musician shares their creative process behind a song, I decided to apply this video concept to the album promotion of our university band.
For each song, I invited the songwriter (and in some cases the musicians and producers) to shoot an interview, which I filmed two parts. First, I asked a basic set of questions in a Q&A format. Then, I played the song on a speaker and allowed the interviewee to pause the song at any point to comment on particular sections of it.
In editing these videos, I cut together the best clips from these sections in order to tell the most concise and compelling story, adding the original song file and displaying lyrics in text overlays.
In order to announce the album’s release, I designed a carousel post of graphics for each song, featuring a lyric, a quote from the songwriter, and song credits.
